Video 2018 Winter Olympics Recap Day 4 (Chloe Kim/Shaun White) I Part 1 I NBC Sports

  • Chloe Kim, medal already around her neck, but she wants an even bigger score.
  • She could have played it safe, but that is not Chloe's style. Hello everyone, I'm Julia Donaldson.
  • Chloe Kim came in to these games a heavy favorite in snowboarding women's halfpipe, and the 17-year old lived up to the hype.
  • Chloe drops into the halfpipe on her first run. Just a typical morning for the laid-back California teenager.
  • Flying high, enjoying the South Korean sun, and absolutely crushing it. Kim finishes her run at the top of the standings.
  • If the first-time Olympian was nervous, well, didn't show there at all. Mid-competition tweeting this:
  • "Wish I finished my breakfast sandwich, but my stubborn self decided not to and now I'm getting hangry, and we all know that's dangerous
  • Becomes are those staying loose in between runs just showing off her little dance moves
  • After two runs, Kim was still in first and teammate Kelly Clark in third place.
  • Fellow American Arielle Gold in fourth after two runs, needing to improve her score on her third and final run, and she does.
  • Scoring an eighty five point seven five which puts Gold in position to win bronze, but that knocks teammate Kelly Clark off the podium.
  • China's Liu Jiayu taking one last run to try and best Kim.
  • She goes all out as she changes her routine, but can't land that trick, and with that the 17-year old Chloe Kim wins her first gold medal.
  • Knowing the gold medal is in her pocket, her last run more of a victory lap that Kim does not hold back.
  • With back-to-back 1080s, the youngest female snowboarding medalist in Olympic history puts up a ninety eight point two five.
  • Well, my parent, my family has sacrificed so much for me
  • to help me accomplish this dream of mine and get me to this point so
  • being able to do it here in their home country is, um. It's amazing.
  • Staying at the halfpipe for men's qualifying, American Shaun White competing in his fourth Olympics reminded everyone why he is the man to beat yet again.
  • White has two Olympic gold medals to his name in this event, but finished fourth in Sochi.
  • Despite strong performances by his competitors, the 31 year old overpowered the field, putting up a monstrous 98.5 in his second run. He seems poised to return to the podium.
  • I'm pumped to get into this round, and standing at the top, I knew I just great run in me and before I dropped in, my wax guys like I'm gonna pull some extra on your board see if it runs faster.
  • You know, test it for tomorrow. Well, Kenny. It's a lot faster. I was going with some speed in that run.
  • I'm really happy, and bumping up my score, getting to drop last tomorrow is everything, so, wish me luck guys.
  • White's toughest competition in the final is expected to be Australia's Scotty James.
  • With all four Americans advancing, Team USA looks to crowd the podium. Watch the final live tonight on NBC in primetime.
  • Alpine Skiing Men's Super Combined: one run of down hill followed by a slalom run.
  • So speed and control, both important. Total fastest combined time determines the winner.
  • Downhill portion provided a scary moment: Pavel Trikhichev catches some air and the Russian loses his skis, gets out of control, slides hard into the protective fencing.
  • He's out of competition, shaken up but thankfully he is not seriously injured
  • Now, clean runs needed to claim gold and Austria's Marcel Hirscher turns in the best combined time.
  • Hirscher finished 12th in the downhill portion, but it was his top finish in the slalom making him number one overall.
  • The World Cup champion wins his first Olympic gold, adding it to the silver he claimed in Sochi for slalom.
  • American Ted Ligety finished fifth.
  • Remember you can stream all of the events of the Winter Olympics live at I'm Julie Donaldson. Thanks for watching.
